Storyline Designs Creative heritage interpretation

Certified Interpretive Guide Training
The Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) is an entry level professional qualification for those who communicate directly with diverse audiences. Developed in the US by the National Association For Interpretation, it is now taught in over 25 countries. Storyline is the sole UK interpretation company offering this certificated training nationally to individuals of cultural and natural heritage organisations.

The CIG is advanced enough to be of considerable interest to those who already have some experience with tour delivery. The programme provides an excellent opportunity to discover the latest innovations in visitor engagement and earn a valuable interpretive credential.

What does it involve?
To become certified, participants need to:

  • Complete a 4 day (32 hour) course
  • Write a presentation outline
  • Deliver a 10 minute interpretive presentation
  • Pass an open book exam
Benefits
Achieving certification demonstrates a level of skill and commitment to the interpretive profession. Participants receive the best tools and hands-on experience to develop truly interpretive and engaging presentations. Those that achieve certification, join a growing family of guides, who together, are raising the levels of expertise in heritage interpretation.

What's included in the training?
The history and theoretical foundations of heritage interpretation and opportunities to learn and practice the application of interpretive principles. See our 'More about training' page for further details of training content.
